Pour Your Heart Into It: Three Ways To Become A Stellar Barista

Blog

What goes into making a great barista is actually far deeper than the drinks they make. Yes, that definitely plays a huge role! But, consider that there are other aspects that are just as crucial for creating an experience that will be cherished by customers. Read on for three ways that can make your time as a barista even more special.

Make a Connection

You might think that the most memorable part about walking into a café is the coffee itself, but what customers remember most is the service they received. It doesn't matter how fantastic a latte may be, if the service is terrible, that will be the only takeaway the customer will carry with them. Remember that the people who walk in the café doors may be getting ready for a grueling day at the office, be out celebrating a graduation with their family, or may be going through the worst day of their life and need a much-needed coffee break. Whatever the reason the customer comes to your café, serve them with a warm smile, ask how their day is going and, if they're feeling up for it, engage in small talk. This small act of kindness on your part will go far and will not be forgotten.

Know Your Beans

While many of your customers may not care where their coffee comes from, you'll need to be prepared to educate those who wish to learn more. This is a great way to educate yourself on where coffee beans are imported from as well as the cultural history behind the beans you provide. You might be surprised, for instance, to learn that beans that are imported from Brazil have a flavor that is different from those imported from Ethiopia. Likewise, you'll learn that surrounding crops, weather conditions, and harvesting methods all play a part in what ultimately becomes a handcrafted beverage. So if a customer expresses curiosity regarding where their coffee comes from, you'll find yourself more than prepared!

Strive to Learn More

Having a general understanding of the different types of drinks in your café is always a smart move when it comes to bringing in more customers. Not only will this knowledge help you create beverages that are accurate and of the highest quality, but will also shine through to your patrons who frequent your location. Even if you feel that you have a good understanding of what types of drinks there are, go over your menu regularly anyways. Learn about the components that go into each specific drink such as the proportions of foam versus milk that go into a cappuccino or when an espresso shot dies and is no longer useful in a drink. Use any extra time you may have to practice making drinks you feel you can improve upon until you reach perfection.

Multiple Cake Maker

Last year, one of my friends gave me a unique Christmas gift. She knew how much I like to bake cakes; so, she bought me a multiple cake maker. This innovative cooking tool plugs into the wall. In it, I can bake 5 small cakes at one time. If you are a fan of baking, this amazing tool is a must-have item in your kitchen. It works great when you don’t have time to bake a traditional cake. The small cakes bake in only a fraction of the time it takes to bake one large one in a traditional oven. On this blog, you will discover the benefits of purchasing a multiple cake maker.
