Worried About Your Kids Lunches? Simple Tips for a More Nutritious Lunch

Blog

You want your kids to eat healthy while they're at school but they might not want school lunches every day. It can be difficult to come up with nutritious ideas for their lunches. Before you give up, take a look at these ways to create a nutritious lunch that your kids will enjoy.

Main Course

A healthy lunch should begin with a main course. You want your main course to include as many healthy choices as possible. This easy-to-make main course will provide your child with grains, dairy and vegetables.

Directions

  1. Slice one pita pocket in half and set one half aside for later.
  2. Place two slices of lean ham in pita pocket you've kept.
  3. Add two leaves of romaine lettuce and two tomato slices.
  4. Cut one slice of low-fat cheese in half and place both halves in the pita pocket.
  5. Wrap the sandwich in plastic wrap and place it in an airtight container.

Drinks

Sugary drinks aren't good for kids. In fact, sugary drinks can increase the risk of childhood obesity and other serious health problems, such as diabetes associated with poor diet. Instead provide your child with one of these healthy drink options.

  • 100% fruit juice
  • Seltzer water with a splash of 100% fruit juice for flavor
  • Rice milk
  • Plain water

Desserts

Lunch isn't complete without a healthy dessert option included. Place a variety of fruit in the freezer overnight. Before school, place the fruit in an airtight container with a small container of plain yogurt. By the time lunch begins, the fruit will have thawed out enough for your child to eat. They can then dip their fruit in the yogurt for a tasty treat.

Snacks

If your child gets hungry between meals, you can add a few healthy snacks for them to eat during nutrition breaks or recess. Here's a couple simple snack ideas that your kids will love.

Ants on a Log: Cut a few slices of celery and fill them with peanut butter. Sprinkle raisins on top of the peanut butter. Place the snacks in a container. Your kids will have a nutritious snack that they can eat during school.

Popcorn: This is one of the easiest snacks to make for kids. Be sure it's air popped to keep unnecessary fats and calories away. For a bit of added flavor, spray it with a bit of non-stick vegetable oil cook spray and sprinkle it with a small amount of parmesan cheese.

In it, I can bake 5 small cakes at one time. If you are a fan of baking, this amazing tool is a must-have item in your kitchen. It works great when you don’t have time to bake a traditional cake. The small cakes bake in only a fraction of the time it takes to bake one large one in a traditional oven. On this blog, you will discover the benefits of purchasing a multiple cake maker.
